Summer Essentials
/Whatever your summer has in store for you and your family, make sure you have your essential oils on hand to keep your vacation as enjoyable as possible!
Camping trips - Terrashield, Lemon, Peppermint, Lavender
Terrashield is my favorite bug repellent blend, and now comes in a convenient 30mL spray bottle! Among other oils, it contains Arborvitae, which comes from trees that are naturally insect repellent. Chemical free, it is safe for children. Spray on the body and around the perimeter of your tent for a less itchy camping experience.
Environmental allergens can be especially potent at the campground, so make sure you have your roller-bottle blend of equal parts lavender, lemon and peppermint to apply to the bottoms of the feet and breast bone a few times a day.
Beach days - Lavender, Basil, Geranium, Peppermint, Lemon, Frankincense, Wild Orange
For simple after-sun skin care, spray a mixture of witch hazel, aloe vera, lavender and peppermint on the skin for hydration and rejuvenation. For more serious sun-exposed areas, apply a base of pure aloe vera and add a few drops each geranium, lavender, basil, and frankincense for soothing and supporting the skin.
For those naturally sun-sun kissed beachy locks, try a blend of equal parts lemon and geranium essential oils to brighten and nourish your hair.
If the ocean isn't refreshing enough, keep a few frozen washcloths with 2 drops each peppermint and wild orange in a cooler nearby to place on the back of your neck.
BBQs - Lemon, Basil, Peppermint, Grapefruit, Lemongrass, Ginger
Mix up a light refreshing vinaigrette for your side salad using white wine vinegar, EVOO, 1 drop basil essential oil, 2 drops lemon essential oil, minced garlic and shallot.
If your neighbor promised moscow mules but forgot the ginger beer, add a drop of ginger essential oil to soda water to save the day, and make sure to keep a roller-bottle blend of equal parts lemon, grapefruit and peppermint on hand to rub over the liver and bottoms of the feet to help you detox after you retox.
To make sure your kids are the only ones playing in the sandbox, spray the sand regularly with lemongrass essential oil to keep critters and pets away.
International Travel - OnGuard, Serenity, Lemongrass, Lemon, Peppermint, Wild Orange, DigestZen
To support the immune system before getting on a plane or train, use OnGuard protective blend on the bottoms of the feet and on the chest to keep you and your family healthy for your much anticipated trip.
If you have trouble sleeping in unfamiliar places, use a few drops of serenity essential oil on your pillow for a peaceful, restful night.
When you planned to wear that sweater a few too many times and now your family fights over who has to sit next to you at dinner, rub a drop or two of lemongrass essential oil to the underarm area of your smelly garments for a quick fix sans washer and dryer.
Add lemon to your water for a cleaner, refreshing taste.
Use 2 drops each peppermint and wild orange on the palms of the hand to inhale and rub on the back of the neck for an invigorating boost to beat the jet-lag.
For a stomach that isn't accustomed to international cuisine, take a drop of digestzen under the tongue and blend equal parts digestzen and wild orange to apply to the abdomen for relief from digestive discomfort.
